New Look 6524

DIY Ruffle Sleeve Sheath Dress | New Look 6524

I was recently invited to a black and gold birthday party and of course I had to make something to wear.  I decided that I would make New Look 6524.  I have this dress listed in my #2018MakeNine but view D.  I decided to make view B because I just loved the sleeves.

The week before the party, I had a pretty busy week and I wasn’t even sure I was going to have time to make something to wear to the party.  Off I went to Joann Fabric to search for some black and gold fabric.  I had a particular fabric in mind and of course when I went looking for it, they didn’t have it anymore.  I was pressed for time and couldn’t go in search for the fabric I wanted at other stores and needed to find something while I was there. I ended up finding this knit black fabric with gold flakes and I’m so glad I got it.  The fabric is a medium weight knit and is so soft. Sorry guys, they don’t have the fabric listed on their site so I can’t link to it.

I chose this pattern because it seemed pretty simple to make and I was right.  I actually made this dress in a few hours which usually doesn’t happen for me.  I made a muslin because I wanted to make sure the fit was right before I cut into my fashion fabric.  I cut a size 18 for the bodice and graded to a size 22.  The dress calls for a 22″ zipper down the back which I decided to omit since my fashion fabric was knit.  Other then that, I made the dress according to the instructions.

I paired the dress with earrings from www.dazzlehernow.com, shoes from Macy’s (Old) and a DIY fold over clutch.  I made this clutch a while ago using fat quarters I purchased at Walmart and used Mimi G’s DIY Foldover Clutch Tutorial that you can find here.

I am so in love with this dress and can’t wait to make view D which I plan in doing very soon.  The pattern shape is very forgiving and I received so many compliments at the party. So, what do you think of my dress?  Let me know in the comments below!
