DIY Front Zip Pencil Skirt | A Brittany J. Jones Tutorial

Today I want to share with you my DIY Front Zip Pencil Skirt that I made for my birthday last year.  I was going through all my pictures and realized that I never made a blog post for it!  This skirt was so easy to make that I was able finish it in one afternoon.  Just in time for my birthday diner with the Hubs.

I purchased the Front Zip Pencil Skirt tutorial from one of my sew friends, Brittany J. Jones.  If you don’t follow her, then I really hope you check out her blog at www.brittanyjjones.com. Brittany creates great and easy to follow Sew With Me videos on her YouTube channel and publishes a monthly newsletter full of the latest news happening in the sewing community.  Brittany did not come up short with this tutorial.  It was very easy to following along on how to modify the skirt pattern to insert the front zipper.

Front Zip Pencil Skirt

You can use any pencil skirt pattern you have, but this tutorial uses Simplicity 1654.  Sorry, but it looks like this pattern is out of print, but you can find it on Etsy, Amazon and Ebay.  The size I cut for the skirt is a size 20 and just pegged the bottom to make it a little more fitted.  The tutorial calls for a  22″  zipper and I chose to use a gold metal zipper.  I purchased this fabric from JOANN Fabric too long ago to remember when I purchased it. This floral stretch denim has just the right amount of stretch in it and has the perfect drape for this skirt.

I really enjoyed making this skirt and now I know how I can modify any skirt pattern to insert a front zipper, thanks to Brittany!
