My Sewn Magazine Feature | Butterick B6563 View B

Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing Mama’s out there! I am super excited to tell you all about my feature in Sewn Magazine.  A few month’s ago, Michelle from Sewn Magazine contacted me wanting to know if I was interested in sewing something for the magazine? Uh, hello, of course!  She was going to be featuring Butterick B6563 and I was asked to make view B.  I immediately started thinking of my fabric choice.   But before I get into my awesome top, make sure you read the entire blog post because I have something to share with you all.

A friend of mine gifted me a bunch of fabric and this Lilac 1/4 Inch Gingham was included and thought it would be perfect for this pattern.  I was super excited because I had never done a button down shirt before.

The pattern instructions were very easy to follow.  I would say this is an advanced beginner/intermediate pattern to sew because of the button holes. I made sure to practice on a piece of scrap fabric before I did it on my fashion fabric.

I did make several fit adjustments to the pattern. I cut a size 18 and shorted the shirt by an 1 inch at the waist line. I also made a bicep adjustment to the sleeves to better fit my bicep. Other than those fit adjustments, I followed the instructions and I love the way my shirt came out.

Love the lilac fabric, looks great on you. I’m having a little trouble with the collar, confused about the the ends where the turned under part ends to the edge of the facing. Was that supposed to be turned under as well?

Thank you! What I did was fold under the part where it said to turn under and then I top stitched it since no one would see it because the stitching would be under the collar. I just made it look neat and it worked out. Good luck! I would love to see your top. If you’re on instagram, tag me in it if you post it.
