DIY High Low Peplum Top McCalls 7021 | Pattern Review

Hello! I hope everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day Weekend.  Today I bring you my super easy DIY High Low Peplum Top using McCall’s 7021.  I’m sorry guys, but this pattern is out of print.  You can find this pattern on Amazon, Ebay and Etsy for very reasonable prices.  If I were you, I would purchase it if you can find it because this pattern will become your new favorite pattern.

This pattern comes together so easily it only took me a few hours to sew it together.  I chose to make view B which is the high low peplum view with the 3/4 length sleeves.  I purchased this black 4 way stretch knit on sale at Walmart about a year go.  It was 5 yards for $5.00 and it came on the bolt. I keep on checking back, but I haven’t been able to catch this sale again.

Pattern Description:

Misses’ Peplum Tops and Tunic

Pattern Sizing:

I cut a size 20 based on my measurements.  I think I might make the smaller size next time to make it more form fitting.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Yes, it looked exactly like it.

Were the instructions easy to follow?

The instructions were super easy to follow.  The pattern is categorized as Easy and it definitely is.  I think this would be a great beginner project or a self gratifying easy sew.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

I liked using the suggested double-stitch sewing technique instead of the stretch stitch or zigzag stitch.  I also serged my seams.

Fabric Used:

I used a 4 way stretch knit.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

I had to get creative with my peplum piece because I was running out of fabric.  I had to cut the front peplum piece in 2 instead of 1 piece, this is why I have a center seam.  It doesn’t really bother me because it’s so flowy that you can’t really tell.  I also did not hem the peplum.  I think it looks just fine without it plus it saved me the aggravation of sewing a circular seam.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

Yes, I will be sewing this again.  I want to make the cap sleeve version and a long sleeve one for the fall and winter months.

Conclusion:

Grab this pattern when you find it.  It’s a very easy pattern to sew and I just love the peplum on this pattern.  It’s very flowy and would be flattering on any body type.
