Hi! This month I decided to join The Eli Monster brand ambassadors on the Spooky or Sweet blog tour where these amazing ladies and myself, share whether we sewed up something spooky or sweet. The pattern I chose to make is The Basic Sötnos Raglan Shirt.
I can’t believe Halloween is right around the corner! Before you know it, you’ll blink, and it will be Christmas all over again. For The Basic Sötnos Raglan Shirt we decided to not be so spooky. Well, not we, but my son. The Sotnos Raglan is the perfect fit unisex raglan top. The pattern can be made in sizes 18 months to 12 years old. You can make this shirt in 3 different variations – basic straight cut, high low version and a tunic dress.
Fabric Selection
I’ve decided to let him pick out the fabric for his projects to make it more fun for him. Last month I made him The Kamp Shirt, which you can read all about here. He, unintentionally, picked the perfect fabric for Halloween last month! Oh well, off we went to Joann to find fabric for our project.
After much deliberation, he decided on this Gray & Black Bats interlock fabric. There were so many different fabric options available. This fabric is so cute and really soft. It was perfect for this project since the pattern calls to make it in knits.
Construction
The Basic Sötnos Raglan is a very simple pattern to put together. It only took me an afternoon to put the PDF pattern together and sew it up. Serging is the suggested method of sewing, but you can certainly use a zig zag stitch, stretch stitch or a twin needle. I decided to use my serger and I used a twin needle for the sleeves and the hem of the raglan. Can we talk about the twin needle for a second? It is my newest sewing technique that I just love! It really gives your clothes a nice finish and works great for knits because the stitches stretch.
The Sötnos Raglan Shirt has 3 buttons along the side neckline that adds a great little detail to make it a little more than just a basic raglan. I think this is the hardest part of making this top. If you have never made buttonholes before, I would suggest you practice on scrap fabric before making them on your fashion fabric. Buttonholes are really easy to make, but you want to make sure you get a little practice in if you’ve never made them before.
