Oh, don’t you mind me. I’m just standing here in my buffalo stance. Don’t even ask me what that means, but it was in a popular late 80’s song. Raise your hand if you know what I’m talking about. Just google Neneh Cherry. You’ll thank me later. At any rate, I’m standing in my buffalo stance in my Imago batwing top from Studio Calicot. I recently got to do another pattern test for them and once again, they have a winner.
The Imago Batwing Top
The Imago long sleeve batwing top is so easy and breezy. This top is perfect for running around and doing your holiday shopping as I’ll be doing today. (no lie) You can also make it as as a pajama top. Studio Calico describes it as a lounge wear classic and I must agree. You can wear this with your favorite pair of jeans or your fav PJ bottoms.
Fabric and Construction
The Imago top calls for a light and breathable jersey, like bamboo knit. I chose to make mine out of Red & Black Buffalo Check Knit Fabric from Hobby Lobby. It looks like they are currently out of the red and black fabric, but you can find the white and black fabric HERE.
Based on my body measurements I made a size XL. I wanted my top to be loose fitting, so I went with the larger size. The fit came out exactly how I wanted it to fit. All Studio Calicot patterns include detailed pattern instructions and the Imago batwing top was no exception. The pattern is categorized as a beginner project and if you follow the pattern instructions you should be just fine.
The Studio Calicot patterns are one of my favorite indie pattern companies because they are always so on trend. Their patterns are also easy to put together and the pattern is tiled so that you can print only the size you want to make. I love it when a PDF pattern have a tiling option! Sometimes, printing all the sizes at once can get a little confusing. Make sure you follow Studio Calicot’s Instagram account HERE for inspiration.
Until next time,
Johanna
