Hi Guys! Today I’m sharing all the deets on my DIY Sleeveless Dress. This was my second make for the #sewcomfortable challenge that I got to host this week with Faith from www.faithstjules.com. We had so much fun seeing all of your makes! This was my first time hosting a challenge and it won’t be my last.
I loved doing this challenge because even though it was right up my alley, it was a challenge. Why? It was a challenge because we decided to make 2 different makes for this challenge and I was able to do it! Two makes in one week?! Who is this girl? AND I blogged about both makes?! There’s a first time for everything right?
Simplicity 8874
After going back and forth several times, I finally decided to make Simplicity 8874 view D. I honestly like all the views for this pattern. That made it a little bit more difficult on deciding which view I was going to make. I decided on view D because I like sleeveless and I wanted to go with a shorter dress.
Based on my body measurements, I made a straight size 16. I didn’t make any alterations to the dress except I omitted the elastic at the waist. The reason why I omitted the elastic is because I really didn’t need it. The dress fit perfectly. I used a poly mix fabric I found in the LA Fashion District for a $1 a yard. I fell in love with the color as soon as I saw it. Here is the deal with the fabric. The people that own this fabric store I purchased the fabric from also own Angel Textiles . Unfortunately, they do not have a website, but if you’re ever in the LA Fashion District, check them out. I digress. The fabric probably didn’t have as much stretch as I needed, but I wanted to use this fabric so I made it work.
This pattern is a quick sew. I would say that this is a beginner project. Just make sure to use a stretch or jersey knit needle and sew using a zig zag stitch, depending on the weight of your knit. Having said that, I used a straight stitch because I used a heavier knit. The only thing I would change about this pattern is to make the skirt fuller. I probably could have graded out at the waist up a size, but the skirt would not have been any fuller. Other then that, this is a great pattern and I would definitely make it again. I will probably make my next one with sleeves.
Like my matching green headband? Thanks, I made it. I used a tutorial my friend Raven made. You can follow along step by step on her blog www.ravenmaureen.com. It really only took a few minutes to make.
