Hi Guys! I know it is now May and I’m JUST now providing an update to my #MakeNine2019 picks. Not that it makes much difference, but I’ve been trying to write this post for a while now. First of all, how are you guys holding up? We’re in really strange times right now. Today is quarantine day 5,493. Not really, but it might as well be. When this all began, I was really being affected by what was going on. Then, I decided that I would stop watching the news and now I’m so much better. lol No, seriously. At any rate, it seems like I have all the time in the world right now so, lets get into it.

So, at the beginning of 2019, I wrote a blog post talking about my #MakeNine2019 list. It was basically a post talking about 9 things I wanted to make during the year. You can read about it HERE. Below I’ll share what I was able to make from my list and what I didn’t get around to making. Please note that I will be including anything I made up until now (May 2020) and not just items made during 2019. I think it’s only fair, right?) After I added the check mark and Xs, I didn’t do so bad!
What I made and didn’t make from my #MakeNine2019 List
Jeans – I didn’t quite make it around to making jeans last year. At the beginning of this year, I declared that it would be the year of the pants! lol I’m working on that, as you’ll see below. I’ll be leaving the jeans on my list for 2020.
Joggers – I made not one, but 2 pairs of joggers. The first ones I made are the joggers from Simplicity 8702. You can read all about them HERE. You’ll see this pattern number come back up again later in my list because I made the jacket as well.
My second pair of joggers are the Hudson Pants from True Bias. You can find all the deets HERE. I paired it with my Sewcially Distancing t-shirt I made. I’m going to be adding a shop to my blog really soon and these will be in there. If you just can’t wait until I open my store, just reach out to me and I’ll hook you up. I also included the file to my blog post if you have a cutting machine.
Fur Vest/Jacket – I did make a jacket, but unfortunately, I am not able to share this project at this time. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to share by the end of this year. Since I did make the jacket, I’ll take that as a win.
Blazer – I made a suit last year and I chose to make the jacket using Simplicity 8697. I’ll be posting a blog post soon with all the deets. I did post a photo on my Instagram – @soveryjo though. The pants used for this suit is Simplicity 8749.
I also made Simplicity 8741 with a Stretch Jacquard Fabric Taupe print from Mivervacraft.com. I’m part of the Minerva Craft blogger network and my blog post will be featured on their blog soon. I’ll be sure to keep you all updated.
Jacket – I’m proud to say that I made 3 jackets last year, even though I didn’t get around to the jean jacket I wanted to make. Any who, the first jacket I made was McCall’s 7636. I love the way it came out and this fabric is amazing. You can read all about it HERE.
My second jacket was Simplicity 8702 which is listed above. You can click on the link above to check out the blog post.
The third jacket was the Cicero Jacket I made my son. You can get all the deets HERE.
Dress – Well, it would seem that I like dresses because I blogged about 13 dresses last year! I guess I do like dresses. Many dress patterns come together quickly. Maybe that’s why I gravitate towards sewing them. I honestly can’s say. I’m going to pick 3 of my most favorites and then will link the rest for your viewing pleasure. This is going to be really difficult because as I look through all of them I find that I love them ALL.
OK, one of my favorites is this DIY Retro Polka Dot Dress using Butterick 6318. I made this dress as part of the MAR/APR 2019 issue of Sewn Magazine. You can read all about it HERE.
My next favorite dress was this pink little number I made to wear to Mimi G and Norris Ford’s wedding last summer. I love this dress so much because I had a vision in mind of what I wanted my dress to look like and I made it happen by using 2 different patterns. I give you detailed instructions on how I achieved this look HERE.
My next favorite dress is Jazz Era Vintage dress that was featured in December issue of Vintage Made Magazine. I love this dress because I would normally not make anything like this for myself. I also love it because it looks so difficult, but it really comes together so effortlessly. You are read all about it HERE.
Here are all the other dresses I blogged about last year.

The Lena Horne Dress in Full Bloom by Tabitha Sewer

Skirts – I didn’t make as many skirts as I did dresses, but I think 6 is an impressive number, don’t you? I’ll do the same with the skirts as I did the dresses. I’ll pick my favorite 3 and link the rest below.
One of my favorite skirts is this skirt I made as part of Simplicity 8982. I love everything about this skirt, especially the ruffle at the bottom. You can read my tutorial on how I achieved this look HERE.
My next favorite skirt is the Janelle Skirt from Style Sew Me Patterns. My favorite part is the split and also that this baby comes together in only a few hours. The Janelle Skirt is currently on sale for only $5! If you like this skirt, you should definitely pick the PDF pattern now. You can read all about my skirt HERE.
My next favorite skirt is this amazing swing skirt I made for a fashion show I participated in last year. The fullness of this skirt is so beautiful and the fabric is perfect. You can read all about it HERE.
Here are all the other skirts I blogged about last year.
DIY JoJo Cowl Neck Top with Matching Pencil Skirt
Chanel Inspired Jacket – I did not get around to making a Chanel inspired jacket. Funny enough, Mimi G has a course on how to make one! The course is part of the Sew It Academy, which I’m a student of. If you are looking to learn how to sew or learn a new sewing skill, then you should really consider signing up.
Pants – Yes, I know I said that this was the year of the pants. I will be making more pants, I promise. For now, here are the ones I’ve made so far!
These pants were made for my son out of an old pair of my husbands jeans for my very first upcyclying challenge. I used McCall’s 7379 view D to make these shorts. My son loves anything I make for him and these shorts were no exception. You can read all about these pants HERE.
My next pair of pants were also for my son and I used McCall’s 7379. I made these for him for the fashion show I participated in last year. You can read all about these HERE.
Well, I hope you all enjoyed my #MakeNine2019 recap. This was actually really fun going down memory lane and looking back at how much I accomplished last year. I did better on this list then I did on my 2018 list. I will not be making a 2020 list at this point. There are loads of garments I want to make and won’t be making a list because I always change my mind. lol
Until next time,
Johanna
