I Made A DIY Reversible Swimsuit

YES, you read the correctly. Not only did I make my very 1st ever swimsuit, but it’s reversible! So, techically, I made two! I’ve always thought sewing a swimsuit to be intimidating. I can’t even explain why I was so scared. I am here to tell you, it’s not as scary as you might think it is. I promise.

Evie Swimsuit Pattern

I think it was sometime last year, I won a copy of the Evie Swimsuit pattern from @caramiyamaui in an Instagram contest. I was super excited to have won, but I never got around to making it. This year I was determined to make a swimsuit and here it is in all it’s glory!

The Evie Swimsuit Pattern is a simple bathingsuit block that has so many possibilities! With all of the different design options included in the pattern it helps to accommodate different body shapes and sizes. You can make the pattern with 2 different strap widths, 3 different neck and back options and three different leg options as well as 4 levels of butt coverage. That’s a whole lot of options out of 1 pattern if you ask me. Based on my body measurements I cut a size Large. For the front and back necklines I cut the low neck option and for the front leg I cut the mid leg point and for the back I cut the medium coverage. I am SO in love with my bathing suit. I love the fit and it came together very easily. I have a secret to share. I sewed the entire swimsuit using my serger! I left all my dials at 4 and sewed it together! If you don’t have a serger, it’s OK. You can use a zig zag stitch.

I purchased this Lemon Print Nylon Spandex Active Swim Knit fabric from LA Finch Fabrics last summer, sorry it’s no longer available. I purchased it during one of their end of bolt sales and I couldn’t pass it up. Even last summer I was dreaming of making bathingsuits. The lace cover up is New Look Pattern 6378 Misses’ Easy Kimonos with Length Variations view A with modifications. I shortended the lenghth of the coverup and I took off from the sides to make it more rectagular because the pattern is more a-line. I found this black lace fabric from Walmart for a dollar a yard! Yes, $1 a yard! I used the two yards to make the cover up although the pattern called for more than 2 yards. Gotta make it work!

TADAAAH! This is the other side of my Evie Swimsuit! Isn’t that cool? I got 2 bathing suits out of 1! I love a good 2 for 1. I purchased this fabric from a local fabric shop last summer as well. I used my Willow Kimono as a coverup. I made my Willow Kimono 3 years ago and I used it ALL the time. You can read all about it HERE.
