Bernice Reversible One Piece Swimsuit
The Bernice Reversible One Piece Swimsuit is a pattern designed by Tommie Hernández from Sirena Patterns. I found Tommie on Instagram and instantly fell in love with her designs. I was even more excited when I learned she was from Puerto Rico too! I’m always excited to learn of other Latinas in the sewing space. Well, I reached out to Tommie to see if she would be interested in being one of my sponsors and she said YES right away. I was so excited. She has great swimsuit patterns so it was a little difficult to decide which pattern I would be making. I narrowed it down to 2 and I decided on Bernice. So, let’s talk about it.
The Bernice Reversible One Piece Swimsuit is categorized as being a beginner level project and I would have to agree. Now, the pattern instructions are amazing and are written in English and Spanish! I love that!! Also, the pattern instructions are very detailed and contain extra tips like how to determine how much stretch your fabric has as well as other construction tips.
Now, I’m not gonna lie, I totally got hung up in Step #8 which is turning the suit out and sewing. Thank goodness there was a video. Even with the video I got a little confused because I wanted to do what I wanted to do instead of what she was showing to do. Once I slowed down and did exactly as she did, I was home free. Make sure you follow along with Tommie’s YouTube video HERE.
Now, based on my body measurements I made a size Large and I didn’t make any adjustments to it at all. The fabric I chose was a neon pink Nylon Lycra Spandex Swimwear I picked up at my local fabric store and the black fabric I got at Hobby Lobby a while ago. This fabric is so cool because it looks like leather. It’s to die for. I have some left and I plan on making some workout leggings with it. I can’t wait!
Just in case you were wondering about my cover up, I made it using this piece of mesh fabric I think I got in LA a few years ago. I had a wrap sitting in my closet and I pulled it out and traced it! That’s it! Nope, I didn’t even hem it. The measurements I used are 42″ L x 60″ W. Now you can make your own.
Yes, those are definitely sweat marks on my bathing suit. It was hot as fish grease outside. Alright, to enter this week’s giveaway, you must go to my Instagram account @soveryjo and follow the instructions listed in the post. Johanna
