Guess what? I’m currently the Octorber SewYourView Co-Host for the October Sewalong! What does that mean? We’ll, I’ve taken over the SewYourView Instagram account and we are doing all types of fun stuff over there. This month, the pattern selected is the Citrus Dress from Mood Sewciety. This is a classic sweater dress with a faux button placket that is a must have for this fall season.
Let me explain for those of you who aren’t aware of what SewYourView is. SewYourView is an Instagram account that is managed by Monica from @thatssewmonica. Every month, Monica selects a pattern that everyone can sewalong with. As mentioned, the SewYourView October 2020 pattern is The Citrus Dress from Mood Sewciety and it’s FREE! You can download it HERE.
Deets on the Dress
The fabric suggestions for this dress are Pique Knits, Ponte Knits and Velour Knits. Basically, anything with a great stretch as there are no zippers and you would have to pull it over your head. I made my dress using a gray and black chevron knit fabric I purchased at my local fabric store. This fabric is perfect!! It had the right amount of stretch.
Let’s talk about the fit. The fabric does not have finished garment measurements included, so I could only go by the size chart included. Based on my body measurements, I made a size 12/14 for the bodice and graded out at a 16/18 for the waist and hips. After I had attached the front and back of the dress and tried it on, I discovered that it was too large with the grading alterations I made. I ended up making a straight size 12/14 with no other alterations with the exception of the length. Not sure if you’ve noticed, but I’m a shorty and I end up altering patterns that have a longer length. I cut off 6 inches from the length of the dress, and I love it. When I tired on the dress, I also thought the neckline was a little tight. I ended up cutting out about a size 16/18 for the neckline as well as the collar, so it would fit when I sewed it up. I thought making this adjustment made the dress fit perfectly.
