Hi Guys! I believe I mentioned before that I was selected to be a Fabric Mart Fabricista this year. Well, my first blog post went live on Monday over on the Fabric Mart Blog. I am truly excited to be part of the Fabric Mart blog team. Oh, so what does that mean? Well, it means that I’ll gifted fabric to make something amazing with and I’ll be up on their blog every other 1st Monday of the month for the rest of the year starting April 5th. I decided to make a Chanel Inspired Jacket! Make sure you head on over to read my complete write up over on www.fabricmartfabric.com.
I’ve always wanted to make a Chanel Inspired Jacket but found that the task would be so daunting. Chanel Jackets are so expensive because the jacket is made completely by hand. The jacket’s main feature is that the lining is quilted on to the main fabric. Then everything else is hand sewn. Now, if you know me, you KNOW I don’t really enjoy hand sewing. I’m a Sew It Academy student and Mimi has an entire course dedicated to making a Chanel Inspired Jacket where she shares how to construct the jacket properly. Well, I did not hand sew my jacket, BUT I did make my own trim.
How to Make Trim For Chanel Inspired Jacket
So, I went on to YouTube to figure out how I was going to make my own trim. It was very simple.
Fold fabric in 1/2 length wise with salvage edges touching.
Place ruler on bias grain of fabric (45 degree angle) and cut 2 inch strips of fabric.
With a zig zag stitch, sew two fabric strips together down the center. Do that 2 times for reinforcement.
Using your seam ripper, pick at the edges of the fabric to fray edges all the way to the zig zag stitch made in the center.
And you’re done! Don’t forget to attach your trim!
Tadah!!! Here is the finished product.
I also recorded a quick video on how to accomplish this for us visual learners. It’s posted on my IGTV Channel. The link is below.
I hope you all enjoyed my tutorial. Don’t forget to head on over to the Fabric Mart blog to find out what pattern I used and all the good stuff. Plus I have more photos over there.
PS. Tomorrow is my birthday!!!! Whoop Whoop!!!
Until Next time,
Johanna
