DIY Marley One Piece Swimsuit and Self Drafted Cover Up

Guess, what? I made another swimsuit!! This one is the Marley One Piece swimsuit and I also made a self drafted Cover Up/Robe to go with it! I’ve been dabbling with pattern drafting lately and I figured I would give it a go. This cover up was really simple to make and I’ll share below just how easy it is.

The Marley One Piece

Can I tell you that I have found my new favorite swimsuit? I honestly have. The Marley One Piece swimsuit is from Edgewater Avenue and you can find it HERE for purchase. I have quite a collection of Edgewater Avenue swimsuits. They are just so cute and super easy to sew. Many people are intimidated to sew swimwear, but it’s really not hard at all. Katie from Edgewater Avenue makes a tutorial for each of her patterns so you can follow along! I’ve binge watched her channel. lol You can check out the Marley One Piece tutorial HERE.

I decided to do some color blocking with my Marley One Piece and used pink and sea foam green swimwear fabric. I purchased this fabric from my local fabric store. I made a size XL in both the top and the bottom and I didn’t have to make any alterations at all and this suit fits like a glove! I would suggest you make a test one first before cutting into your fashion fabric.

Self Drafted Cover Up

Can we get into this self drafted cover up?!!! Ok, this cover up was made out of necessity, truth be told. I received this fabric from Zelouf Fabrics and it was screaming beachwear to me. They currently still have this fabric and you can find it HERE. While checking out the site, I just noticed this fabric comes in scuba knit too! You can find that HERE. Any who, I wanted to make a cover up and was going to use the Willow Kimono I made way back in 2017, but I couldn’t find the pattern! lol This is the link for my 2017 blog post HERE. You can purchase the Willow Kimono HERE. So, I decided to use my existing Willow Kimono to make a new pattern. I’ve never done this before, but I’ve seen a few tutorials and decided to give it a try.

  1. Fold kimono in 1/2.
  2. Trace the front and back on pattern paper. (I used the same paper for front and back)
  3. For outer part of robe, measure from bottom hem, up around the shoulder and neckline, down to the other side. I made mine 6″ wide by 52″ long.
  4. Fold outer part of robe in 1/2 the long way and attach.
  5. Hem sleeves and hem.

I hope you guys love my Marley One Piece and Self Drafted Cover Up as much as I do. Since the summer is technically over, I probably won’t be making any more swimwear this year, but I make no promises! I’ll be doing an end of summer recap soon blogging about all the swimsuits I made this summer.

Until Next Time,

Johanna
