Steppnig Out Of my Comfort Zone In My Niya Dress

Hi Guys! I’m back today with another pattern test from my girl Jasmine from J. Desirée Studio. This pattern had me stepping all the way out of my comfort zone. The Niya dress is perfect for your last minute summer sewing. This pattern comes with several options to accommodate us all.

The Niya Dress/Jumpsuit Pattern

Ok, let’s get into it. The Niya Dress/Jumpsuit Pattern is another banger pattern released by Jasmine from @J. Desirée Studio. The Niya can be made as a dress or a wide leg jumpsuit. This pattern features a gathered bodice with ties at shoulders and waistline. Also has an open back with an optional covered back option. The skirt comes in three lengths mini, midi, and maxi. View B is the wide leg style option to make a jumpsuit.

This pattern is pretty straight forward. It has the bodice with no darts and an elastic waist skirt with ties at the shoulder and at the waist. I decided to make a size Large and I cut the mini for the skirt but decided to add 2″ to the hem of the skirt. For the back closure, I didn’t add a button. I decided to make a tie for it and it worked out well. I also added pockets to the skirt. I’ve written several blog posts on adding pockets to garments. You can check them out here and here.

I’m not gonna lie. When I first saw the dress I thought, this is cute, but it’s not for me. I’m pretty self-conscious of all the rolls on my back since working out has not been on my priority list. There was also the fact that I MUST wear a bra, period! I didn’t want my bra to show from the back while wearing it. More on that in a bit. Baby, I’m here to tell you that this baby will be making an appearance out in the wild really soon. I am head over heels over this dress. The fabric I chose to use was from my stash. This fabric was purchased from Fabric Mart so long ago. I think I paid $3 a yard and you know I got a lot. I’ve made several outfits from this fabric. You can see my DIY Chartreuse Power Suit HERE. I did make another dress with the purple fabric, but you’ll have to wait on that because it’s a pattern test and the pattern hasn’t been release yet.

I Used Boob Tape and I Liked It

Since I knew the back was out for this dress and I didn’t want a bra showing, I went off to Amazon to look for some boob tape. I’ve never used it before so I did a little research on YouTube and decided to purchase some. The first one I brought some how got lost in the mail so I had to start over and decided to order from a different company THIS is the one I got. It worked out pretty well and I would definitely recommend. I placed the tape under the boob and pulled the tape up to my shoulders. I did this several times until the entire breast was taped. What I would not recommend is to tape it and then remove the tape to place it elsewhere. The tape becomes less sticky and won’t adhere properly again.

I hope you all enjoyed my Niya Dress as much as I do. Make sure you head on over and pick up this pattern. You won’t regret it.

Until next time,

Johanna
