A while ago, I was scrolling through Instagram, and was watching a bunch of folks upcycle clothes from old, thrifted quilts. Of course, I ran to my local thrift store to see what quilts I could find to upcycle. I lucked out and found a few and of course they sat in my sewing space for a while. I wanted to make something good out of them. When Lynn from Sewn Adaptive posted her bomber jacket pattern test, I raised my hand immediately. This was the perfect project to use my quilts on.

The LSW/Sewn Adaptive Bomber Jacket
As mentioned above, I was selected to participate in the pattern testing for LSW/Sewn Adaptive Bomber Jacket and I’m so happy I was included. This pattern comes in two different views, the standard view and the adaptive view. I made a muslin before I got started and I’m glad I did. I ended up making a size 4 XL because I like my jackets oversized. I didn’t make any adjustments to the pattern at all apart from omitting the inside single welt pocket. If you want an inside pocket in your jacket, then don’t skip this step.

I picked up this quilt at my local thrift store because I loved the colors. I thought it would be great for a project because it had two sides to it. I picked up the trim from Lynn’s online store HERE. She has a great selection of different ribbing and trims for all your different projects.

The main challenge I had while making this bomber jacket was making the single welt pockets. They just about took me out! This was actually the very first step in sewing the pattern, so once I did that, it was smooth sailing. Lynn recorded a YouTube video on how to master the single welt pocket and it was SO helpful. I am so glad I learned a new sewing skill. If you have trouble making your single welt pockets, then check out her video HERE.

I recently purchased electric scissors and they came in so clutch for this project. This quilt had 3 layers and was so thick to cut through with the scissors I had on hand. I pulled out this bad boy and cut through all layers with ease and very quickly too. I would highly recommend them.

While on my mini shopping spree over on Amazon, I picked up these super cute shades. They are the Vanlinker Retro Aviator Polarized Sunglasses. They are quickly becoming my favorites! The lenses are polarized and block 99.99% of harmful rays. This is definitely helpful in the Florida sun.

What more can I say about the LWS/Sewn Adaptive Bomber Jacket? It’s a great jacket to make. My favorite part is the sleeve because you can choose to color block it, which I love to do. Make sure you pick up the LWS/Sewn Adaptive Bomber Jacket HERE and make sure you pick up your ribbing while you’re at it!
At the end of last year, I participated in the #takeittothestreets sewing challenge hosted by @rochelle.handmade.designs and I made this bomber jacket as part of the challenge. This is Know Me Pattern ME2010 by Sins of Many. I didn’t blog about it, but you can check out my Instagram post all about it HERE. I promise to do better about blogging my makes in 2025.

Lastly, this is the last week for South Florida Frocktails early bird tickets so make sure you get yours today!
Until next time,
Johanna
