Serving You Shoulder With McCall’s 7784 And Fabric Mart

Happy Saturday!!! Today I’m serving you a little cold shoulder with McCall’s 7784 and Fabric Mart.  I was recently offered the opportunity to do a collaboration with two amazing sew sisters and Fabric Mart Fabrics and I jumped at the chance!  We decided to each sew up a version of M7784 with some beautiful fabric from Fabric Mart Fabrics.

Collaboration

Can we talk about our amazing sewing community for a second?  I have had the opportunity to meet so many talented ladies via social media and have formed actual relationships.  When I was approached by Marica from http://overdriveafter30.blogspot.com with the opportunity to do a collaboration with Nikki from Sewing My Style, I did not hesitate!  Marica and I met via Instagram and found out we only live 30 minutes away from each other.  She’s amazing behind that camera lens and has photographed several of my previous blog posts found here and here.  Nikki and I connected via Instagram also.  We all decided on each sewing a view from M7784.  I chose to sew view A.

Fabric Choice

There are so many beautiful fabric choices on the Fabric Mart website! I chose this perfect Vibrant Pink Cotton Large Floral Paisley Print Crinkle Seersucker fabric.  Unfortunately, this print is currently sold out, but you can find other Seersucker options here.  This fabric is light and airy which is perfect for the hot South Florida summer weather.

Construction

For this pattern, I cut a size 18 and graded to a size 20 at the hips and it fits perfectly!  I also decided to not sew the opening in the back and just sewed both seams together.  I didn’t find the opening necessary.  The only other modification I made to the pattern was to line it.  I thought the fabric was just a little too sheer for my liking.  I’m very glad I did because I’m in love with the outcome.

Besides the perfect fit and the beautiful fabric, I love the shoulder ties.  I think the ties give this top a whole other look and is just on trend.  I plan on getting a lot of wear out of this top and making view c in the future.

Three Different Views of McCall’s 7784

Here are all 3 views we each decided to make.

Marica (1st photo) decided to make view C using a white shirting found here.  Nikki made view D using a pink/salmon pink and black floral print jersey knit found here.

I thoroughly enjoyed doing this collaboration with these amazing ladies and Fabric Mart.  Be sure to head on over to the Fabric Mart blog where Marica shares more about our fabric choices and construction tips here.

Also be sure to follow Marica on Instagram at @overdriveover30 and Nikki at @sewingmystyle.
