Guess what?! It’s my bloggerversary!!! Woo hooo!!! I published my very first blog post 2 years ago today. Seems surreal. Today I’m sharing McCall’s 7833 view C. This little number can be made to be casual or perfect for any celebration. Originally, I made this dress to go to Diner En Blanc Miami last month, but this dress is perfect for my celebration today!
Construction + Sizing
Well, there really isn’t must to it! This is one of the simplest patterns I’ve made recently. There are only 3 pieces to this pattern. The front and back of the dress (same pattern piece), sleeve and neck facing. I made view C which calls for a 3/8 piece of ribbon for the side gathering. That is all.
What might have taken the longest time was getting the sizing correct. Originally, I cut a 16 for the bust and an 18 for the hips. I usually have to make this adjustment and size up at my hips. After I tried the dress on, the bottom was actually too large. I ended up with a straight size 16 with no modifications. This is a form fitting dress made with a stretch fabric, so you might want to size down.
Why M7833?
As I mention above, I made this dress to go to Diner En Blanc in Miami last month. This is an outdoor diner event where everyone gets all dressed up and you have to wear all white. McCall’s 7833 was taking the sewing community by storm and it was also the October Sew Your View over on Instagram. It was on my to do list and I decided this is what I would make.
Fabric Choice
The fabric I chose to use is a white ponte knit from Fabric Mart gifted to me by my sewsister Marica over at https://overdriveafter30.blogspot.com/. I let her know of my sewing plans and she had white ponte knit in her fabric stash and brought it over for me. Isn’t she the sweetest? This ponte knit has a nice feel to it and has great stretch.
If you’re looking for a quick sew, then this is your pattern. You can dress it up or wear it more casual. I really like this dress and it’s the first form fitting dress I’ve made for myself in a while.
It’s my Bloggerversary!
Guys, can you believe that So Very Jo is 2?! I want to thank you all for coming along with me on my sewing journey. I’ve had a lot of fun these past 2 years and I’ve learned so much about sewing. I’ve been sewing for almost 5 years now and I still learn something new with just about all of my sewing projects. If you are new to sewing, keep learning, keep practicing and don’t give up.
