Holiday Ready in my Zak Skirt | The Eli Monster

Hi Guys! Happy Holidays!! I can’t believe that Christmas is in 5 days.  Well, I’m here to tell you that I have yet to make my list, never mind checking it twice.  We don’t even have our tree up yet. (Don’t judge me)  I’m so glad I chose a pattern to make something for myself as part of my The Eli Monster ambassadorship this month. (did I just make that word up?)  At least, I’ll have my amazing Zak Skirt for Christmas, even if no one else receives any gifts from me. lol

The Zak Skirt

The Zak Skirt is a contoured flat front waist and side zipper skirt which can be made in three length options. (knee, tea, and maxi) The Zak Skirt also features hidden pockets and side zipper.

Fabric

The fabric I chose to make my Zak Skirt with is this mystery fabric I picked up at Walmart about a year ago for $1 a yard! I picked up 5 yards because I mean, $1 a yard! The fabric has a nice sheen and weight to it and I thought it would be perfect for my skirt.

Sizing & Modifications

The actual pattern is very simple.  There is the waistband and pockets.  The skirt is cut in 2 panels based on the measurement chart provided in the pattern instructions.  For the waistband, I cut a size 16.  For the skirt panels I cut them both at 40″ wide and I cut the length at 25″ which is tea length to me since I’m a shorty.

Ok, let’s talk about this side invisible zipper with pocket combo.  Although this is a very simple gathered skirt with pockets, it took me HOURS to make because I just couldn’t figure out how to install the zipper on the side with the pocket.  I stared at the pattern instructions for hours on end and tried at least 5 different times to install the zipper and it just wouldn’t click.  I finally decided to walk away and go to YouTube.  I’m a very visual learner and sometimes I just need a video to show me what to do.  I found this video on how to install an invisible zipper  and pocket on the seam.  I won’t lie, this too, took me a few watches before it finally clicked but I finally got it!

Over all, The Zak Shirt is not very difficult to make, but I would suggest having some zipper installation experience or you can always hit up Google or YouTube for help. (or Me or Steph from The Eli Monster) They are your friend.  The Eli Monster is currently having a sale on some of their most popular patterns until 12/23.  You can grab up your  Zak Skirt pattern here.

So what do you think of my Zak Skirt?  Do you think I’m holiday ready?  At least I have a pretty skirt to wear.  I hope you all have an amazing holiday and get to spend it with those you love.

Merry Christmas!
Love,
Johanna
