Three Pieces, Two Looks

It is always an honor to be featured in Sewn Magazine and seeing my face in print just doesn’t get old. For the February 2020 edition, I was asked to make a day and night look with 1 main fabric. Here are my three pieces and two looks.

Pattern Reviews

Pattern Sizing:
Tinley Top – The pattern sizing is from 2-18. I made a size 18.

Simplicity 8698 – The pattern sizing is XS – XL. I made a straight size L View A.

Simplicity 8994 – Pattern sizing is 6 – 14 or 16 – 24. I made a size 18 view A.

Were the instructions easy to follow?

For all three patterns, I would say yes. Theses are all basic pieces and are not overly complicated to make.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
As stated above, these three patterns come together very quickly and easily. That is what I love most of these patterns. There isn’t anything that I dislike about these patterns. I love separates because it gives you more options to make different outfits with the same pieces.

Fabric Used:
Tinley Top – Scuba Knit from A to Z Fabrics. They are a local fabric store, but unfortunately they are not online.

Simplicity 8994 – Same as above.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Tinley Top – I made this top a size 18 because I wanted an oversized look. I used a size 14 for the shoulder band to make it smaller and because it fit over my shoulders how I wanted it to.

Simplicity 8698 – The only modification I made to the pants was to make them shorter. I cut off about 5″ from the bottom because I’m short.

Simplicity 8994 – I did not make any modifications. I will be sizing down to a size 16 next time.

Conclusion: In conclusion, I would say get out there and make these pieces! The Tinley top is a cute top that you can just throw on to go out and run errands or go hang out with your girlfriends. You can also make it more cropped as it was intended. I love Simplicity 8994 because a great long sleeve knit top is always a must. You can wear this top under a blazer to dress it up or you can wear it with some jeans or joggers. Now, can we talk about the ribbon down the side of my pants?! I am in love with the red. I think it looks great against the green and white print.

I hope you found my review helpful. Did you see me in the Feb 2020 issue of Sewn Magazine? Well, if you did not, I’ll also be featured in the August issue. I’m super excited about this project because my son will actually be featured! You can get a copy of the August issue HERE.

Until Next Time!
