Thrive By Daniel Popper

The newest most Instagrammable spot in Fort Lauderdale has got to be the newest installation from Daniel Popper called Thrive. Thrive is a 30 foot tall concrete structure meant to be a symbol of hope and transformation and was build in 2020.

“The sculptural installation features an enormous figure ripping open its chest—like a fairy-tale giant come to life. Crafted in glass-fiber reinforced concrete, the sublime figure weighs about 14 tons and stands over 30 feet tall. The stunning structure also features a fern-adorned archway that viewers can walk through. The chest of the contemplative giant gently opens itself up, exposing its surprising green interior.”

As soon as I saw this place on Instagram, I knew I had to make my way over there sooner or later. When my sew sisters Duana and Jasmine came to visit this summer, I suggested we head on over and take a look. I’m so happy I did. This statue is just as beautiful in person as it is online.

When heading out to a location to take photos, you must loose all your inhibitons and just get the shot. This is a public space and it’s very popular since everyone wants to take photos in front of the statue. We each took turns photographing each other and had an entire photoshoot right then and there. At one point there was a line forming so we let people cut in so they could take their shots. Can’t hog up the spot, you know?

Sicily Slip Dress

I must say that my favorite part of this status is that you can walk inside of it! I really think that’s so cool. I also think she looks like the statue in Moana, don’t you?

Sicily Slip Dress

I made the Sicily Slip Dress last summer when it was all the rage on Instagram, I just never really got a chance to photograph it. If you’re looking for a somewhat quick sew, then this is your dress. I say somewhat quick because I wouldn’t suggest making this dress if you’re trying to wear it the sameday. The dress is cut on the bias and you have to let it hang overnight before you hem it.

I made a size D and graded to an E for my waist and hips based on my body measurements. I think the dress fits like a glove! It’s not tight, but had the right fit and I love the way it drapes on my body. I used this charmeuse fabric I purchased from my local fabric store.
