Hi Guys! First of all, Happy Holidays! I owe you guys a few blog posts about my recent vacation and other things that have been going on. I’ll be sharing more about that soon. But right, now I want to get into this matching loungewear, but make it fashion look! I’ve been wanting to make a loungewear set for the longest time and just never got around to doing it. Well, I finally did and I want to tell you all about it.
Patterns
When I originally started this project, I started out with Simplicity Pattern 8803 Girls’ and Misses’ Lounge Pants and Shirt. I’ll explain more in a little bit. This pattern does not come with different views but it is a girls and misses pattern. The main modification I made to this pattern was that I chose not to add the pipping. That wasn’t the vibe I was going for since I wanted to have the option to wear it out and not just as pajamas. Based on my measurements I made a large for the top and I made a XL for the pants. The only modification I made for the bottoms was to shorten the pant cuff by a 1 1/2″ since I’m a shorty. The pants sewed up very quickly and I love the way they fit.
Now let’s talk about the top. As I mentioned, I made the top in a size large based on my body measurements. Everything was going smoothly until it was time to attach the front facing. For some odd reason, I couldn’t make it work. When I went to attach the facing, it was too short and was not connecting at the shoulder seams as it should. I even tried with the facing cut as an XL and it still didn’t work. Well, since I didn’t have any more fabric, I went into “make it work” mode. I started looking through my patterns and I found New Look 6697 and I thought the top would work perfectly since both patterns were boxy button down tops.
Accomplishing this modification was very simple. I used the front bodice pattern in a size 18. I placed the pattern piece on top of the fabric and cut it based on the pattern lines. The only seams I cut were the shoulder seam and the neckline. I did not modify the length of the fabric or the side seam. I did the same thing with the front facing piece by cutting it according to the New Look pattern piece and not cutting the bottom or side seams.
I was contacted by Zelouf Fabrics a while ago and asked if I wanted to use some of their beautiful fabric and of course I said yes. Who turns down fabric? This was the second piece of fabric I selected. I made a self-drafted robe this summer which you can check out HERE. For this make I selected this Sage and Navy Satin fabric which you can find HERE. When searching for fabric on their site, I had this project already in mind and I couldn’t be happier with my selecting. This fabric is even more beautiful in person and it washes very well. Yes, I pre treat all my fabrics before using them, as you should too! There is plenty of this fabric left on their site and you can also get it in a blue/black or pink/grey color way.
Well, I hope you enjoyed my matching loungewear set as much as I do. I’m pretty excited to be able to wear this out, hopefully soon. We are currently in quarantine as Santa decided to give my family an early Christmas present. We are all thankfully doing well and I think we have passed the hardest part.
