Happy New Year!!! Hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season. So, for my first blog post of 2022 I’m sharing this shirt I worked on with my son over the weekend. We decided to use Simplicity 8180 for our project.
My son is in a speech and debate class and he had to do a demonstration speech. He decided that his speech was going to be about how to make a button down shirt. WHAT? This child has sat behind a sewing machine maybe twice in his life and quickly lost interest. Well, he sat in class and wrote down the steps on how to make a button down shirt. I think I shed a tear when I read his instructions.
People, he has never made a shirt before. This was all straight from him watching me sew. I swear I couldn’t be any prouder of this child! I am super excited that he’s showing an interest again because of course I would love to sew with my son. He even said he’d like a sewing machine for his birthday so he can set up shop next to me and sew. *TEARS*
Simplicity 8180
As mentioned above, I used Simplicity 8180 view B which is the short sleeve shirt. I’ve made this pattern before for a fashion show I did a few years ago. I did make modifications before and you can read all about it HERE. For his shirt, I cut a small in the mens size and I did cut off about 4″ from the hemline because it was too long. I also let him go in my fabric stash and he pick out this beatiful fabric I purchased from Melanated Fabrics during their grand opening this summer. I really hope I have enough to make myself something because I really love this fabric. Isn’t it pretty? He looks so handsome.
I decided to upload the vidoe we made to my YouTube Channel. Make sure you check it out and subscribe while you’re there!
Until next time,
Johanna
