Lucca Swimsuit with ruffles from Fibre Mood with Tess Skirt

Summertime Is For Sewing Swimsuits

Hi Guys! It’s finally that time again. It’s summertime if you haven’t noticed and it is swimsuit season. My Lucca swimsuit from Fibre Mood has entered the chat.

Lucca Swimsuit from Fibre Mood

Fibre Mood recently came out with Pattern Book Special N°2 and I joined in on the fun in their Link Party #ed25. I’ve participated in a few of their link parties in the past. I get to select a pattern from their upcoming pattern magazine and get to make it and share it during the link party. It’s especially nice to see people from all over the world share their take on these patterns. I chose to make the Lucca Swimsuit. This swimsuit is an off-shoulder, ultra-feminine swimsuit with asymmetric neckline-arm cut that can be made as a swimsuit or you can wear it as a bodysuit as well. As soon as I saw it, I fell in love because ruffles, duh. You all know I love a good ruffle moment, always!

Lucca Swimsuit Pattern Review

Pattern name: Lucca Swimsuit

Size range: XS-XXXL

What size did you make? I made a large with some modifications.

What adjustments did you make? The pattern instructs you to measure from the shoulder to the crotch and to cut the pattern according to that measurement, which I did. So, I cut a size large pattern but at the medium measurement at the shoulder and the crotch. The overall fit of the swimsuit was great, but I did have fabric bunching in my mid-section. I ended up cutting 2 inches at the waistline mark from the pattern for my final swimsuit and it fit perfect.

I used a swimwear fabric I purchased at my local fabric store, A to Z Fabrics. I purchased this fabric a while ago. It came in two different prints, but the color ways were the same. I decided to make the swimsuit in one print and used the other print for the ruffle. I think this made for a great color block moment.

Another modification I made was to add a lining to the suit. The pattern didn’t call for it, but I thought it would be best if I added it. I used a swimsuit lining fabric and basted it to the main swimsuit and sewed it as one. I didn’t want to over complicate things.

What was the construction process like? Did the instructions make sense to you? The instructions were very straight forward.

How do you like the pattern’s fit? I am in love with this swimsuit and want to make more. As I mentioned before I especially love the ruffle, but you can also make the suit without it, and it would still be great.

Will you make the pattern again? If so, what fit, or design changes will you make? I would definitely make this pattern again. I already made the fit adjustments I needed to make so I wouldn’t change it again. I may make it without the ruffles, but I love them so much.

I used a stretch stitch to sew the enter suit and then I serged my edges, but you can use your serger to make the entire suit if you like.

Tess Skirt from Edgewater Ave

I paired my Lucca Swimsuit with the Tess Skirt from Edgewater Ave. I LOVE Edgewater Ave patterns. You can check out my latest Marley One Piece HERE. The Tess Skirt is that girl for swimsuit cover ups. It was so easy to sew up that it took me longer to cut and piece together the PDF pattern than it took me to sew this baby up. I made a size XXL and I chose not to hem it because swimwear fabric does not fray. I want to make this skirt in all the covers to match all my swimsuits.

I hope my review of the Lucca Swimsuit from Fibre Mood was helpful to you and I think this is a must make before the summer is out. Also, let’s not forget about the Tess Skirt from Edgewater Ave that you need in your life!
